Summer Shorts

Until recently I've not made any clothes for years and years 6 yrs maybe mmmm I'm showing my age ! Normally I'm totally, totally, totally, a quilt girl but......watching The Sewing Bee on telly recently I've been feeling inspired to make clothes again ! I have kinda forgotten what I learned all those many years ago at dressmaking classes so I decided to wing it !

I googled for some patterns and found this FAB site -

Next feeling very confident at the suggestion of making my own pattern by drawing round some shorts I decided to make some shorts for my little boy.  They turn out OKish don't look to close at the stitching because I didn't do it on my normal machine it's not very straight.  They were meant to be size 2-3yrs for my big 18mth old but they were way too big I was generous cutting out - they fit my 5yr old lol !!!

Yes he's shooting me but at least he stood still for me :-)

Little Elephants

It's quite rare for me to make something other than a quilt at the moment !  I really enjoyed making something different & I was really pleased how they turned out.

These elephants were really easy to make - I followed this free pattern -

These are presents for my twin niece and nephew who will be 1 in July !  I used toy safe stuffing and Riley Blake designs fabric.  Hope they like them :-)

I have a pattern for a patchwork teddy bear from the magazine so may try that next !

Pinwheel Pin Cushion

Recently I've been thinking up small projects that I can make in the 2 hour beginners classes we will be running from March.  So with this in mind I've been using up my scraps and trying out a few simple blocks as pincushions etc.  The bag was going to be square but then at the last min I thought I'd make it longer so I can fit my small sewing scissors and the pin cushion inside, I just had enough scraps so the scissors just fit :-)

Before Christmas I thought I'd make some lovely frame purses and bags, as Christmas presents, but here we are in January and I've just made my first one ! I might just have to keep this one :-)

I bought the bag clasp from this brilliant site - - lots to choose from.

The material is a cotton / linen mix which I interfaced with hemline interfacing medium (I think), and I've put some cotton wadding in to make it a nice padded shape, and lined with kona white. It's boxed 3/8th of an inch each side.

Theses little purses are really straight forward to make the only tricky bit is the glue, and waiting for the glue to dry, they definitely need to invent 60 seconds dry fabric glue, I'm just the same with waiting for my nails to dry it just take tooooo long !

Hopefully I can make some for Christmas presents next year if I'm more organised !

If anyone want the pattern I'm happy to scan it, and put on here.

Last min Christmas Decorations

I was looking for some interfacing for a project when I happened upon these beautiful felt pom poms on the on FAB Seamstar website here;

I had some lovely red fleece left over from making my son's elf costume for the school play so I thought I'd give it a go.  I love them and what's even better the kids can't break them !

The fleece from ikea was only £3, and I've still tonnes left so I'm very pleased with my bargain decorations !
(Ikea fleece is called polarvidet throw
